At Brook Hill Primary School, assessment follows the Cambridge approach, focusing on progress, individual achievement and continuous improvement.

In Key Stage 1, children are assessed through ongoing teacher observation and classroom activities rather than formal examinations, allowing us to understand each child’s strengths and support their development.

In Key Stage 2, students complete Cambridge Progression Tests alongside regular classroom assessment. Parents are kept fully informed through three reports each year, regular parent-teacher meetings and ongoing communication, ensuring a strong partnership focused on every child’s growth, wellbeing and success.

At the end of Cambridge Key Stage 2, students take the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint assessments in English/ESL, Mathematics and Science. These externally marked examinations provide an internationally recognised measure of progress and evaluate the knowledge, skills and understanding developed throughout the Primary years.

Students also complete Cambridge Global Perspectives, where collaborative projects encourage teamwork, communication and reflection.

Checkpoint results are shared with families during the summer break, providing valuable insight into achievement and readiness for the transition to Lower Secondary School.

At the end of Key Stage 2, students take the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint assessments in English, Mathematics and Science. These internationally benchmarked assessments provide a clear picture of each learner’s achievement, strengths and readiness for Lower Secondary education.

Students receive a Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Certificate reflecting their performance across the core subjects. Recognised by schools worldwide, it provides valuable insight into academic progress, supports a smooth transition to the next stage of learning and gives parents confidence that their child is meeting international standards.
